"Don't Complain, instead Be Grateful! Don't Compare, instead Mind Your Own business. Don't Be Confused, instead Gain Clarity!"

HAPPY NEW YEAR! I wish you and your loved ones, a year filled with exceedingly and abundantly type blessings. Below is an article I wrote for the Jan/Feb edition of Gigare Lifestyle Magazine. I got such great reviews that I thought to share it here for your convenience. I really appreciate what the team at Gigare Lifestyle is doing, so check them out at www.gigarelifestyle.com
By the time this article is published we would have crossed over to 2017. Most of us would have made promises to ourselves, and others, of what would change in the new year. Most of us, would have waited for the new year to start to make the necessary adjustments. Most of us would be excited about the future. However, to dominate in 2017 and beyond, we would need more than resolutions, plans, and excitement.
In fact, if you truly want to dominate, extreme execution is your most faithful and results-oriented friend. Now, there are thousands of people that can tell you what to do. Every major publication has to-do-lists for 2017 if you want to be healthy, happy, and wealthy. I know, I have spent quite some time going through articles, blogs, Facebook Live, youtube videos, books, ebooks, and the list goes on.
In fact, I have experienced the effects of information overload from exploring every new method, technique, and ideology that is out there. Those effects combined led to NO ACTION. I was frozen by the paralysis of analysis. So how did I get back into “domination mode”? I analyzed what does NOT help me to dominate and stopped doing it. Easy right? Not really, some things were so engrained in me that I had to do some serious reprogramming. However, it made the choices easier to make and I no longer had the paralysis of analysis as I was researching the best strategies for the happier, healthier, and wealthier life I intend to live.
It is from this perspective, I chose to share with you a “not-to-do” list as you may also be experiencing the effects of information overload. Here are three fairly simple things not to do in 2017 in order to dominate in life and in business.
DO NOT COMPLAIN
I’m not talking about complaining to others, although that is also a big NO-NO. I am talking about complaining to yourself. Your self-talk is extremely powerful and programs you for success or failure. The more you complain, the more you focus on the lack that exists in your life, the more lack you will find. That may show up as lack of opportunities, relationships, information, business, you name it. Lack does not discriminate and spreads like wild fire if no changes are made.
What to do instead?
Be grateful! The attitude of gratitude comes from an abundance mindset. Being grateful attracts great things to you and will multiply the good that is already in your life. As a man or woman thinks so is he/she. So think on the things that are pure, loving, and of good report.
DO NOT COMPARE
Comparing yourself with others is a slippery slope to a frustrating 2017. The first thing we observe when we compare is what someone else has and what we don’t have. For this reason, comparing can easily trick us into complaining. That’s why it is important to handle comparisons with care. Why are you comparing? If it is market research, looking for opportunities, or learning about the industry, then do it in moderation.
However, too often we get trapped in making the above mentioned, excuses for being inactive. Comparison should propel you into action not prevent you from taking action. Here are some symptoms to comparing for too long, we don’t spend enough time producing, creating, and of course dominating. We don’t move forward on the business idea because someone else is doing it. We don’t apply for the job because we somehow ‘know’ someone with more credentials has already applied. We are angry, hurt, even depressed, because our relationships don’t seem to measure up to someone else’s. See how we can fall for the trap!
What to do instead?
MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS. There’s no simpler way to say it. Just as in the airports, when you are on the moving walkway and you come to the point where you can trip and hurt yourself, a female voice says “mind your step” as way to caution you to focus on where you are going, similarly I am saying “mind your business”.
That moving walkway is symbolic to you moving through life and the easiest way to trip and hurt yourself is to focus on the aspects of your environment that have nothing to do with where you are going.
Your journey of domination is yours to love, to own, or to change. When last did you assess your business indicators? When last did you assess your “happy” indicators? Do you even know what that is? Are you truly adding value to your clients, your job, your family? How do you know? Have you sat down and profiled the kind of clients you want to work with or the designed the kind of life you want to live?
Again if comparing helps to answer these questions and propel you to action, go for it! If not, then “mind your own business”.
DO NOT BE CONFUSED
In searching for how you want to dominate in 2017, or even what you may want to dominate in, you may have come across hundreds of different kinds of information. Fun fact, did you know that 400 billion bits of information per second reach the brain and only 2000 are actually processed. The percentage of process is less than 100 000th of a percent!
Here’s what I find interesting. Though 400 billion bits of information are vying for our brain’s attention per second only 2000 of it are worth being processed. Our brain naturally focuses. Processing 2000 bits of information per second is nothing to scuff at. That is still a lot of information. It doesn’t help that in the dynamic we live there are just so many choices. For example, what kind of car you want to drive? Where do you want to eat? What movie do you want to see? Which gym will you join? All of these questions have hundreds if not thousands of possibilities.
What to do instead?
Gain clarity. Clarity is our best friend. Get clear on what kind of life you want to live, where, what you want to do for work, what you want to do for fun, how you want to impact others, how much money you want to make. Create a personal mission/ vision statement that supports this. I would recommend no more than eight words so you can remember it.
After you decided on the life you want to live, then commit to the process. Go all in! Commit to it. Dedicate your time, actions, thoughts, conversations to the life you want to live. It is yours to live abundantly.
I have complained, compared, and even been very confused in my own life. When I substituted these behaviors for others, I started to dominate in my space. If it worked for me, it can work for you. Don’t do these three things and you have a fairly good chance of dominating 2017 and beyond.
